Your task is to build a base orbiting one of the planets that will become the center of your fleet and help expand its influence. In the process of building your base you'll need to extract various resources, develop and upgrade your fleet. Eventually you will have to engage in combat against other races, and here you must effectively use your ships to take over their bases and planets.
